  Port Phillip Bay

Port Phillip Bay is the largest tidal lagoon in Australia covering over 2000 square Km’s. It is just an hours drive south of Melbourne and is formed by the Mornington Peninsula, which was the first point of settlement in Victoria. The bay is home to Australia’s busiest port.                                                                                         Aerial View There is a mass of communities to see  (to many to name), it all depends if you want the excitement of the city or the  relaxation of a small country town. As there are marine reserves dotted all around the bay, there are strict regulations on mooring.  Below is the website which outlines the designated mooring sites. Check out the website for fees and applications. http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/resources/mresources/moorings/moorings.html.  This is the perfect place to sit and watch nature, with an abundance of Bottlenose dolphins, Australian fur seals and    occasionally a Southern right whale has ventured into the bay. If you enjoy a scuba dive there are a few shipwrecks to explore as well as underwater marine life and plants.    Port Phillip Bay is the most densely populated catchment in Australia with over 3 million people living around the bay. Despite this the fishing is  fantastic with all the common species such as Snapper, Whiting, flathead & bream with the warmer months attracting Yellowtail King fish. October sees the squid coming in to spawn,   people have caught them up to 3 kilos in weight. This is  the place to visit if you want a variety of things to see, defiantly not the  place to watch the world go by. Well worth the look.

Maintenance and Service

Keeping a list of manufactures numbers and locations can come in handy when travelling. We are all aware that no    matter how much care we take sometimes things just break or stop working. A lot of manufactures run service centres that operate 24 hours a day 365 days of the year, just for these emergencies. Your dealer or broker may not be available for information when you need it , so this could certainly save time, money and energy. Keep in mind also it pays to be a member of Seatow or similar organisations, for those mishaps that are       beyond your control. The will come and assist with anything from dropping off fuel, to towing, to disentangling foreign matter from your prop. For the small amount of money it costs it can save you a lot of stress.
