Issue 0901

March 2009

  Introduction

Welcome to our first newsletter for 2009. I hope you are all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year. This edition we cover the end of an era and beginning of a new one. We will give you a brief run down on recent Clippers we have      delivered and take a sneak peak of what we have on offer for the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. I hope you enjoy the read.

The End of an Era

After 30 years the Clipper Europa 34 model has now been replaced by the Clipper Heritage 36. The Europa 34 has been one of our most popular models, with hundreds sold worldwide.   The Heritage 36 will be of the same quality and design you came to expect from  the Europa 34, but with added space. The 36’ has the same beam as the Clipper Heritage 40, this gives us more room to offer you single or twin cabins. It still has all the standard features you expect with the Clipper range, full Raymarine package, good size cockpit with large swim platform, walk around decks, and a large flybridge offering plenty of room to move. The interior is beautifully       finished in teak with ultra leather lounge, a modern electric galley and air conditioning. One of these impressive vessels has already been sold with arrival in Australia due early mid year. For more information on the Heritage 36, please     contact Andy on (07) 3890 5000, 0414 782 446 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Clipper Forging Ahead

Even in these trying economic times, Clipper is still going strong. Our vessel’s are becoming more popular worldwide, with an overwhelming demand coming from overseas. We have partnered with several new dealers,  in Russia, The UK and 3 separate dealers in the USA and Canada. We currently have  6 Clippers due to go overseas in the next few months. With a Cordova 45 going to New Zealand, a Cordova 45 & two Cordova 52’s going to Norway as well as a    Cordova 48 & Cordova 52 heading to Asia. This will mean even more of the world will experience the joy of owning  a Clipper.

 Clipper Update

It has been a very busy time for all at the Clipper Head Office, Australia. We have had three vessels arrive to us before Christmas, with six more new boats due in in the next couple of months. We have had two Heritage 40’s arrive and have already been delivered to their respective owners. As well we were excited to take possession of our first Blue hulled Cordova 52. This is a very impressive vessel, as you will see by the pictures below. This vessel was handed over to its new owner at the start of February. The coming months will see us receive two 60’ Motoryachts, a Cordova 48 and of course the new Heritage 36, as well as several of the ever popular Heritage 40.

Just a reminder that the analogue 121.5MHZ beacons will no longer be detected by satellites as of the first of February. You must switch to the 406MHZ, the others will simply not work anymore. Please check your governing marine authority in your state for the requirements for carrying an EPIRB

 Teak Maintenance

Boat owners who enjoy the natural beauty of teak trim are facing a constant battle with the elements in an attempt to keep a finish on their exterior woodwork. Teak is one of the most durable woods know to man, hence its popularity for use as an exterior wood on many vessels. Teak maintenance is simple and straightforward if the following steps are followed.

 · Assuming that the old varnish has been sanded to a uniform finish, the teak must be cleaned using Turps to remove any residual dust and surface oils

· Mask up the surrounding areas using High Quality Blue variety masking tape.

· Generally a one pack varnish is easier to use and maintain.

· A fine natural bristle brush is required to ensure neat and even coats

· The first coat of varnish must be thinned to the manufacturers specifications (usually 50percent with Turps) before use, this makes a sealer coat that will penetrate deeply into the teak and combine with the natural oils.

· The second coat can generally be applied the same day and thinned as well but only to 25 percent. This second sealer coat will prepare the teak for the subsequent layers of varnish

· Wait at least 24 hours before applying any further coats and sand with 220 grit sandpaper to keep a smooth surface and help with the varnish layers bonding.

· A minimum of 4 coats is generally advised and additional coats every three of four months will ensure great results.
